About Me
My name is Wan Shahril Mustapha. I was born on the 6th of June 1980 in Ipoh.
Photography has always been my interest since I was small and I was influenced by my late father. The first camera that I have ever held was his Yashica (I cant recall the model). Back then, I really dont know anything about the camera settings. The best thing that I can do was playing with the focusing ring.. hehe..
My first camera that I have bought on my own pocket money was when I was 7. It was just a point and shoot 35mm film camera which i had shot tonnes of crappy pics with..
When I was 8, I had myself a small lomo type camera with a tiny roll of film, I really cant remember what type of camera that was but it was a real fun..
Years gone by and there were many cameras that I've (asked my parents to pay) bought. :P
My favourite was an Olympus Mju compact.
After finishing my SPM, I was very active in BMX riding and I had the opportunity to meet (a present good friend of mine) Ilyas.. Ilyas was already an artist back then when I met him.. He showed me the great possibility of having amazing images through a compact camera.. He opened my eyes and showed me how to play with lights. A new chapter in my life begins..
Since then, I have developed a keen interest in photography.. Experimenting with my compact camera and wasted dozens of film rolls.. That was how hard it was for me to learn.. I costs me time and money..
On the year 2000, I was on tour with KBS (Ministry of Sports) for "National Extreme Sports Circuit" which I was appointed as the Judge for BMX freestyle. Seeing the opportunity to travel around Malaysia, I have borrowed an SLR from a friend of mine. That was the first time ever that I have handles an SLR on my own.. If I am not mistaken, It was an Olympus OM-1000.. A fully manual camera.. God knows how hard it was to do action photography with that camera.. huhu..
The tour ended and I got my pay.. With that hard earned money, without any hesitation I have bought myself my first ever SLR.. It was a Canon EOS 66 semi-auto 35mm film SLR with kit lens.. That was the starting point of my journey to become a serious and avid photographer.. My EOS 66 has always been my best companion.. I started to read books on photography, doing experimental shots, shoots everything that caught my attention.. I am now (then...) a photographer!!! ;)
On Nov 2006, I have decided to dump everything and become a Professional Fulltime Photographer.. And I am here to stay.. :D
